DISCOVER THE STORY BEHIND OUR
FUNERAL, CEMETERY, AND MEMORIAL
SERVICES SINCE 1852

In 1847, The Mount Royal Cemetery Company was officially established through an Act of the Provincial Parliament of Canada.

1847

In 1852, Mount Royal Cemetery was founded. Its location on Mount Royal was carefully chosen to align with the principles of the rural cemetery movement. The founders of Mount Royal Cemetery aimed to create a serene and harmonious space that combined horticulture with commemoration.

1852

The oldest crematorium was constructed in Canada in 1901 on the eastern side of Mount Royal Cemetery, and it remained the only crematorium in Quebec until 1975.

1901

In 1910, the establishment of Hawthorn-Dale Cemetery took place in Pointe-aux-Trembles, and later in 1995, it became the home of the Des Trembles Funeral Complex.

Over the years, The Mount Royal Cemetery Company has adapted to meet the changing needs of grieving families by expanding and diversifying its services.

1910

In the 1990s, the company introduced a comprehensive selection of funeral services. As a result, Mount Royal Cemetery gradually emerged as one of the pioneering rural cemeteries in North America, attracting visitors with its serene ambiance and awe-inspiring views.

In 1998, recognizing the need to reflect its expanded service offerings, The Mount Royal Cemetery Company rebranded as Mount Royal Commemorative Services.

1990

After more than 20 years of searching for appropriate land, Belvedere, our newest property was purchased along Highway 40 at the Western extremity of the island in Senneville in June of 2005.

2005

Belvedere Cemetery and Funeral Complex officially opened its doors in the spring of 2015.

2015

Despite its rich heritage, Mount Royal Commemorative Services continues to improve its facilities to cater to the needs of modern families while preserving the natural beauty and tranquility that define the cemetery’s surroundings.

Mount Royal Commemorative Services currently comprises three cemeteries and funeral complexes within the Greater Montréal area. Each location offers a complete range of services, including funeral arrangements, cremation services, and burial options.
