What steps to take when faced with a loss:

The necessary actions may vary depending on the location and circumstances surrounding the death. Please follow the steps outlined below for guidance:

If the death occurs at home

Contact the Emergency Services (911) and inform them about the situation.

• Urgence-Santé will provide the necessary documents to our funeral home to facilitate a transportation process with compassion.

• Once the death certificate is signed, please don’t hesitate to contact us to coordinate the transportation of your loved one to the compassionate care of our funeral home, where they will be treated with the utmost respect and dignity.

If death occurs in hospital or another establishment

If your loved one passes away in a hospital, a nursing home, or any other institution, kindly contact us at your earliest convenience. Our funeral director will coordinate all the required authorizations for the transportation of the deceased to our funeral home once the Attestation of Death has been signed.

Planning your loved one’s funeral

After your loved one has been transported to our funeral home, our funeral counsellors will engage in a thoughtful and considerate discussion. They will provide support and understanding, ensuring comfort during this challenging time.

Throughout this meeting, our funeral director will listen attentively, guiding you through saying goodbye and helping you make choices that align with your values, needs, and budget. They will comprehensively explain the options, ensuring you can create a meaningful and heartfelt farewell.

This initial appointment will provide you with all the information you need regarding the upcoming stages of the funeral planning process.

A compassionate meeting

with our funeral director

Our funeral director will collect all the necessary information to complete the Declaration of Death for the Quebec government. During the appointment, they will kindly request the following documents and information:

  • Health Insurance Number (card, if available).
  • Social Insurance Number.
  • Driver’s licence number.
  • Place of birth.
  • Parents’ names.
  • Place and date of marriage or civil union.
  • Date of spouse death, divorce date, or civil union dissolution.
  • Clothes of the deceased, including undergarments and socks
    (if necessary).
  • Photographs of the deceased, including recent ones
    (if necessary).
  • A list of the surviving individuals you would like to include in the
    funeral announcement (if required).
  • The deceased’s glasses, dentures, makeup, jewelry,
    or other personal items (if applicable).

The director can also draft, translate, and submit a newspaper notice during the funeral planning meeting. They will take care of all the necessary arrangements with the cemetery, clergy, church, florist, and other individuals involved in the service.
